Why do businesses use data lakes?
-
Data lakes are used by companies since they offer a versatile approach to data storage and management of huge amounts of data coming from various sources. In addition to the creation of structured data, such as sales data and customer data, organizations often create unstructured data, such as documents, images, videos, emails, website traffic. Using a data lake, all this information may be stored at once, without the need for conversion. In relation to what is a data lake, it can be said that one of the main benefits of data lakes is versatility. Companies have the ability to store data first and then analyze it according to their needs. Data lakes can be used in business intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, reporting, data discovery purposes. Data lakes can be helpful for bringing information from various departments in one place. An appropriate data lake architecture would allow for better scalability of storage and security controls. Nevertheless, good data management is required since unmanaged data lakes are hard to query, govern, and secure.
