Good morning. I have family in Algeria and I have been following the wildfire situation with some worry. Three days of national mourning were declared, which suggests significant loss of life. Beyond the immediate emergency, I am interested in whether anything is changing structurally: forest management, early warning, equipment for civil protection. Every summer there are fires and every summer the same conversation happens. Does anyone here follow Algerian civil protection policy closely enough to say whether investment has actually increased in recent years?

Sorry about your family situation, hope everyone is safe. On the substance, there has been real investment in aerial firefighting capacity over the last few years, which is the visible part, but the underlying problem is land management and rural depopulation, and that has not been addressed at anything like the same pace. The Algeria coverage is over here if you want to follow how the response develops rather than just the incident. What I would watch for after the mourning period is whether any specific budget line or agency reform gets announced. If nothing appears within a couple of months, the pattern you described will repeat next summer. I would like to be wrong about that.
