What is a dataset in Power BI?
-
In Power BI, the dataset is a set of data imported or connected to, which serves as a basis for building reports and dashboards. It comprises tables, fields, and relationships that define how your data is organized and analyzed. A dataset can be brought in from various sources: Excel, SQL databases, cloud services, or online services such as Google Analytics. Once connected, you are able to clean, transform, and model the data in Power BI with the use of Power Query and DAX formulas. Each of the datasets can be used in multiple reports and visualizations to maintain consistency and save your time. Once published to Power BI Service, datasets can also be scheduled for refresh automatically in order to keep your reports current with the latest information from those sources connected to them.
