Hey everyone. Slightly awkward question. We got an offer through a cold email from someone claiming to have a /22 available at what looks like a very good price, well under what I see quoted publicly. My gut says this is either a scam or a block with a history I would regret inheriting. But I also do not want to pass on a legitimate deal out of paranoia. How do you tell the difference, and what checks would you run before taking something like this seriously? The price is roughly forty percent under what I am seeing quoted elsewhere, which is what set off the alarm.

Your gut is doing good work. Below market usually means one of three things: it is not theirs to sell, the range is blocklisted into oblivion, or there is a dispute over the holder record. Checks I would run before replying seriously: look up the block in the registry database and confirm the organization matches who is emailing you, check it against major blocklists, look for any history of hijack reports, and ask for the transfer to run through escrow. If they resist escrow, you have your answer. We went the boring route and chose to Buy IPv4 addresses safely , through IPv4.online instead. Cold offers occasionally are legitimate, but the diligence cost is the same either way.
