Hello. We're planning to sell our Bellevue home in about two years and want to update the kitchen and primary bath now so we can enjoy them and also get a better price. Our realtor says luxury buyers in this market expect high-end finishes. Is it worth doing a quality remodel before selling, and who would you trust for that level of work? He's still sharp and independent, and I don't want him to feel like he's losing his dignity. Timing matters too. Curious what finishes buyers actually care about.

In Bellevue, I think the realtor is right, buyers at that price point walk straight past dated kitchens. We did exactly this in Kirkland before listing, and the remodel paid off in how fast it sold. We used Alta Group Remodeling, you can check their portfolio on altaseattle.com. They steered us toward finishes that appeal broadly rather than super personal choices, which is smart when you're planning to sell: quartz, clean-lined cabinetry, good lighting, a spa-style primary bath. Two years is a good horizon, you get to enjoy it too. Don't expect to recoup every dollar, few remodels do. But it definitely made the house stand out in our listing photos.
