Sorento gearbox is hesitating and the dealer quote scared me off

My Sorento has started hesitating when shifting from second to third, especially when the engine is cold, and it's been getting more frequent over the past month. The dealer quoted something for a gearbox overhaul that I simply can't justify on a car this age, and they didn't seem interested in looking for a cheaper fix first. I've been searching for a Certified Kia repair and maintenance workshop in Dubai that might actually diagnose the problem properly rather than jumping straight to the worst case. Has anyone had gearbox hesitation on a Sorento and what did it turn out to be? I'm hoping it's something like a fluid issue or a solenoid rather than a full rebuild, but I'd rather know what I'm dealing with before I commit to anything expensive.
