Thinking of swapping our wooden pallets for plastic, anyone made the switch?

We're a mid-sized manufacturing operation in Sharjah, and we still use a ton of wooden pallets for our raw materials and finished goods. It's what we've always done, but I'm starting to get seriously fed up with the splinters, the moisture damage during the humid months, and the constant fight with pest regulations. One of the guys on our logistics team pointed out that wooden pallets are basically a disposable cost of doing business, and the more I think about it, the more I see his point. He mentioned that there's a huge push to phase them out, especially with new regulations from Dubai Municipality and the Ministry of Climate Change aimed at reducing single-use packaging waste. I've been looking into switching to moisture resistant plastic pallets for industrial use UAE, and from what I can gather, they're way more hygienic because they don't soak up moisture or harbor pests, and they apparently last for years instead of weeks. I've also seen some suppliers like Crateco offering reinforced plastic pallets that handle heavy loads and even have perforated decks to drain liquids, which is perfect for our plant where spills happen . Some sources even suggest that in closed-loop supply chains, the cost per trip can be much lower over time, even though the upfront cost is higher. I just can't decide if that higher upfront cost is really worth it for our scale, or if we should stick with the devil we know. Has anyone here actually made the full switch and noticed a real difference in durability and long-term costs, or was it more hassle than it was worth? I'd love to hear some real-world experiences before I try to convince the finance team.
